The Sea Services Leadership Association (SSLA) is thrilled to announce that the 33rd Annual Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium (JWLS) will take place in person on July 11-12, 2022, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, VA. The COVID-19 pandemic presented a unique challenge in 2020 and 2021 as we pivoted to a virtual webinar series in lieu of the Symposium, but we are back stronger than ever with a robust lineup of inspiring speakers and interactive activities for servicewomen and men to engage in and learn from.
The annual symposium, the largest gathering of women in uniform in the nation, welcomed over 1,100 servicewomen and men to Washington, DC in 2019. JWLS has become a crucial component in the professional growth and leadership development of women in our Armed Forces. This year’s Symposium is built around the theme "Stronger By Helping Each Other" which captures the importance of pivoting from a period of pandemic-induced self-reflection and self-improvement, to a period of emerging from isolation to come together with our service mates to help each other. Only when we all work together to help each other - men, women, and those transitioning - do we get stronger as a service and as a country. The first day of the conference will be a Joint Service day which will offer a robust agenda that will include discussion forums, Q & A panels, practical workshops, and speaker spotlights. The second day will feature branch-specific sessions to promote discussion of topics such as leadership, mentorship, military policy and family wellness, and networking with leadership. For updates and announcements please visit https://www.facebook.com/WomensSymposium.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: For the third year, SSLA will host the SSLA Career and Transitioning Seminar at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in two sessions. The first session will be on July 10th from 4 pm - 8 pm and the second session will be on July 13th from 8 am to 12 pm. The Seminar is for service members, veterans, and their spouses who are preparing to retire or transition to a civilian career. The seminar will feature a reception, networking breakfast, insights from guest speakers about their own transitions, veteran authors' panels, and networking opportunities with various pro-military civilian employers. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in resume reviews, mock interviews, elevator pitch practice, the art of salary negotiation, and mentoring and networking best practices. Registration to attend is free. You can register when you are signing up for JWLS or if you are just attending the Seminar only you can sign up by clicking here.
